Guest Yau Posted June 20, 2004 at 06:32 PM Report Posted June 20, 2004 at 06:32 PM There's a wonderful synonymous phrase in cantonese. 撻出火 literally means "to light a fire", rather common for describing something sexual. In mandarin, possibly you can say "挑逗", which may mean to flirt or to seduce. Quote
trooper Posted June 21, 2004 at 12:30 AM Author Report Posted June 21, 2004 at 12:30 AM Thanks for that! I was just wondering how American R&B/Hip Hop/Rock etc lyrics and catchphrases translate into Chinese. I was thinking about that Kevin Little dancehall song, Turn Me On. Here the Cantonese phrase is much more vivid than the Mandarin one. Maybe Cantonese really more vivid than Mandarin just as you native Cantonese speakers claim. Quote
