rezaf Posted October 3, 2008 at 07:44 PM Report Posted October 3, 2008 at 07:44 PM (edited) I am not thinking about marriage or anything but for future reference I want to know the regulations for marrying a Chinese student in China. I read somewhere that if a Chinese student marries a foreigner, she/he must pay the same tuition fee that a foreign student pays to the university for everything that he/she has already studied or wants to study and also somewhere I read that she/he might even get expelled. Senzhi Posted October 3, 2008 at 08:35 PM Report Posted October 3, 2008 at 08:35 PM I am not thinking about marriage or anything but for future reference Then I'd suggest you wait until things happen that way, because it makes no sense: things change too quickly. I read that she/he might even get expelled Happens indeed, but not only with foreigners marrying. Many Chinese students have been expelled from their college/university because of marriage/pregnancy. Even if they marry amongst each other. Nevertheless, this is very dependent on location: it'll happen less in bigger cities that are more accustomed to "modern" traditions. Quote

Some extra information won't hurt:wink: Happens indeed, but not only with foreigners marrying. Many Chinese students have been expelled from their college/university because of marriage/pregnancy. Even if they marry amongst each other. I have heard that in 2004 this law changed in most universities and I have heard of undergraduate students marrying each other but what happens with foreigners? Is there a difference between undergraduate students and graduate students? Quote
HashiriKata Posted October 4, 2008 at 07:07 AM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 07:07 AM for future reference I want to know the regulations for marrying a Chinese student in China."Love will overcome", as it's often said, rezaf! If you're marrying someone you love, even the toughest regulations will eventually be sorted out. So, 不要想太多! Quote
vinhlong Posted October 4, 2008 at 07:23 AM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 07:23 AM Love does not overcome. Discipline, dedication and perseverance does. Quote

liuzhou Posted October 4, 2008 at 09:11 AM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 09:11 AM No. I was only joking. It is a bit ambiguous, but I know you mean it in a general sense in which many people might want to marry students - so plural is OK. Quote
rezaf Posted October 4, 2008 at 09:17 AM Author Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 09:17 AM When I say I am Iranian. Chinese people say is "Oh, Iranians are rich!!!" and Koreans (and some Chinese people) say "Oh, how many mothers do you have?" because they all assume that we marry many wives:lol: Quote
liuzhou Posted October 4, 2008 at 10:15 AM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 10:15 AM Sorry. That wasn't my meaning at all. Quote

heifeng Posted October 4, 2008 at 06:08 PM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 06:08 PM oh yeah, just in case you are really really thinking ahead, you may want to keep this in mind too: The following Chinese citizens shall not be permitted to marry foreigners:(1)armymen in active service, diplomatic personnel, public security personnel, confidential personnel, and other personnel who are in charge of important confidential work? (2) persons who are receiving reeducation through labour or serving a sentence. Quote
Senzhi Posted October 4, 2008 at 06:35 PM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 06:35 PM Heifeng, just out of curiosity: could you send me a ref. of this quote? Thanks in advance. Quote
heifeng Posted October 4, 2008 at 07:02 PM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 07:02 PM Oh, I just happened to stumble upon it here but i am sure if you dig enough you can find it else where. I know I've seen it in other places too...Well, I've seen item (1) before, not (2), that's why it caught my eye:wink: Quote
Senzhi Posted October 4, 2008 at 07:20 PM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 07:20 PM Thanks very much. Point (1) I expected, nothing new here. Point (2) caught my eye. I didn't expect it, since many laws here are up to standard, though not necessarily implemented. Quote
