ai_ya Posted October 4, 2008 at 10:41 PM Report Posted October 4, 2008 at 10:41 PM Hi - I'm rather confused by the amount of measure words for hair and the specific usage, for example 撮 搓 绺 条 根, which amount/length of hair do they refer to? How do you refer to a clump of hair, like a random clump. How about 'a bit/strip of hair' i.e longish and quite thick, not just a few strands? Or 'a part of hair'. I dyed a few strips of hair [几条?] Or is a 条of hair only a thin strang? He pulled a clump of hair out of my head A few strands? [几根 maybe?] How about 'a thick strip/bit of hair' - the 'hairdresser dyed a big/thick strip of hair'. Finally, how would you express 'I'm growing the sides of my hair infront of my ears down so they come onto my face' and 'push the hair forward onto the face'. Thanks so much! Quote
leeyah Posted October 5, 2008 at 10:45 AM Report Posted October 5, 2008 at 10:45 AM Interesting question and rather hard to answer, but here's my attempt (量词are possibly the trickiest part in learning Chinese. Even native speakers are likely to be confused with the adequate use of measure words) a single strand of hair: 一条头发 or 一毛头发 a few strands: 几根毛:头顶发际部只留下几根毛而已 or 三几根头发 just a few strands left on top of the head 人约有10万根头发 ("total amount" of hair) 头发一天掉几根 (strands of hair) 白发若拨一根长三根 (strands of hair) clump, handful, tuft, lock, strip of hair: 一绺头发 = a tuft of hair, a lock of hair vs. 一撮头发 a handful of hair 手里拿着一大撮黑发 holding a huge clump of black hair in the hand 几绺散发飘到脸上 a few loose strips of hair hanging over the face 几绺头发垂在耳边 few locks of hair hanging loosely around the ears 把一绺头发连根拨下去 pulled a clump of hair out the root 把前额一绺头发剪成像杂草一样蓬乱 a few strips of hair cut randomly like fluffy leaves of grass parts of hair: (额)前头发际部 front 两侧发际部 (both)sides 后头发际部 back Now you can do the rest by yourself ( I'm growing the sides of my hair in front of my ears down so they come onto my face' and 'push the hair forward onto the face') 好吗? 1 Quote
