trien27 Posted April 25, 2009 at 09:34 PM Report Posted April 25, 2009 at 09:34 PM Skylee, In the song titled 皇后大道東, what does the line 空即是色 色即是空 空即是色即是色即是空....(This second line is actually wrong or it's correct but you or whoever posted it online got tired of typing/copying & pasting too much? I've went to Youtube and in this song they've repeated 空即是色 色即是空 7 times in the video, not 空即是色即是色即是空....) [from a Buddhist prayer commonly translated as "The Heart Sutra" in English].... have to do with the Hong Kong street name 皇后大道東? I know the meaning to the rest of the song, but this part stumps me every time? Thanks. Quote
trien27 Posted April 25, 2009 at 09:51 PM Report Posted April 25, 2009 at 09:51 PM (edited) A Cantonese video from 1993 has a line or two in Mandarin from this Hong Kong actress Gigi Lai. She was never known for her singing. She is now retired from acting, taking time to watch over her bro's doctor's clinic after he got into an horrible accident. Enjoy: 黎 姿 我這樣愛你,錯了嗎? trien27 Posted April 25, 2009 at 10:49 PM Report Posted April 25, 2009 at 10:49 PM Title of this video is 砒霜, pi shuang, which is "arsenic poison(ing)" in English. Quote
skylee Posted April 25, 2009 at 10:53 PM Report Posted April 25, 2009 at 10:53 PM Re #232, there are no typos as far as I can see. That is how the part is sung (singing the two lines four times). IMO, the lines in question mean it all comes to nothing, all the prosperity, all the freedom, nothing. If you understand the rest of the song then you know why. Quote
roddy Posted April 27, 2009 at 06:14 PM Report Posted April 27, 2009 at 06:14 PM Is anyone actually listening to these? Seems to have been a couple of pages since anyone posted any reaction to any of the songs. I suspect it would be helpful if some basic information - genre, why you like it, anything that people can engage with and comment on - is posted. (and can't we just link to the lyrics, my scroll wheel's wearing out) Quote

What he's supposed to be singing is on screen. I'd say his Canto has improved a lot since he sang 分手總要在雨天. But he still isn't as good as Jolin or S.H.E Quote

But just to be fair there are almost enough girls in bikinis to make 2live crew proud! Most out-there Chinese MV I've seen in a while...perhaps ever! Lu Posted May 2, 2009 at 05:00 PM Report Posted May 2, 2009 at 05:00 PM Yeah, that song is fun! It's also the only Alex To song worth listening to, afaik. Very avant-garde, yet good for everything from close listening and drowning in the music to background sound: 小河. Nothing is recorded beforehand, he makes all the music on the spot (and so he sounds different every time he performs), and the words are made up as well. Go listen, it's awesome! Edit: actually that's a really short fragment... Something longer but less out there is . Quote

heifeng Posted May 8, 2009 at 02:49 AM Author Report Posted May 8, 2009 at 02:49 AM ok, I just randomly found this catchy lil' song today as I avoided doing my laundry, and not only is the title great..I really like 李娜‘s voice. I think I must have actually heard many many of her songs before but never figured out who sung 'em. (Anyway, all these random, older songs actually work wonders when you go to KTV places outside of China since the selection is much older, and much more limited:mrgreen:) 女人是老虎 ~ 李娜 Quote
