brianj Posted October 8, 2008 at 07:12 PM Report Posted October 8, 2008 at 07:12 PM I am looking at buying a Treo Pro. Does anyone know if it comes with Chinese langauge support for read and write in e-mails, text, etc? Or is there software that can be added to the Treo Pro to make it work? I know there is CJKOS for the Palm OS, but the Treo Pro runs Windows Mobile 6.1. Quote
ipsi() Posted October 9, 2008 at 02:14 AM Report Posted October 9, 2008 at 02:14 AM I've got a Treo Pro on order, interestingly enough. Being WM, it won't come with it in-built, but worst-case you can buy CE-Star. I'm planning to try a free method first to see if I can get it displaying properly, and to allow pinyin input, I'll let you know how it goes. Quote

ipsi() Posted October 17, 2008 at 02:01 AM Report Posted October 17, 2008 at 02:01 AM I didn't get ZTA4 working. Admittedly, I didn't try terribly hard, but I suspect it won't work with the Pro full stop. Installed CE-Star Standard (without the HWR), and everything has been good so far. I did get Chinese display working for free, so if that's all you need, that's doable. If you want input, however, you may need to purchase CE-Star. Part of the problem is I can't read Chinese well enough to find out if ZTA4 is designed for 320x320 screens, for example. A lot of software isn't... Most of it still works though, just looks a little odd (like Skype). Quote
brianj Posted October 23, 2008 at 01:34 AM Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 at 01:34 AM Thanks for the updated info. I am looking at getting a Treo Pro soon and will probably install CE-Star to get the full read and write. Are you happy with the Treo Pro overall? Quote
ipsi() Posted October 23, 2008 at 05:08 AM Report Posted October 23, 2008 at 05:08 AM It's worth noting that CE-Star offers a Treo-specific version which works fine with the Treo Pro, and allow you to use [option] + [space] to turn the IME on or off, as opposed to needing to play around with the on-screen keyboard. I suspect it may lead to less stability though. Not sure. EDIT: As far as I can tell, though, it hasn't caused me any problems thus far. In any event, I'm very happy with my Treo Pro. The keyboard is a bit of a pain, but nothing serious. The battery life could be a bit better, but is easily extendable by forcing GSM if you don't need/want 3G/UMTS/HSPA. Quote
