trevelyan Posted October 14, 2008 at 08:31 AM Report Posted October 14, 2008 at 08:31 AM I was just in Hong Kong turning over a visa for Popup Chinese, and ran into an excellent budget hotel. Thought I'd share since this issue comes up every now and then for people making visa runs. Sea Rich Guest House (海富宾馆) A5~A6 2/F United Mansion 37G Jordan Road Kowloon, Hong Kong (852) 2332 0498 The place is clean, quiet and relatively inexpensive at 300 HKD per night. I only stayed an evening and didn't haggle - you could probably get it down further by haggling or staying multiple nights or even just being nice. Anyway -- highly recommended. There is no sign outside the entrance to the building, so you have to go inside and climb up the to second floor before you'll have a clue it exists. Also note that because this is Hong Kong, when they say "2/F" they really mean "3/F". I've never understood that about Hong Kong. Quote

imron Posted October 14, 2008 at 08:36 AM Report Posted October 14, 2008 at 08:36 AM A hangup from the British custom of calling the the first floor the ground floor, and then starting the number count after that. Australia does it that way too, but I guess Canada decided to give up that particular custom. Quote
msittig Posted October 14, 2008 at 08:37 AM Report Posted October 14, 2008 at 08:37 AM Probably a European thing, because Spain was the same. How is the room size? Did they have doubles/triples? How's the location? Anything around there? I know Jordan is pretty central, but I mean in the immediate vicinity. Quote
Ratlike Posted October 15, 2008 at 05:42 AM Report Posted October 15, 2008 at 05:42 AM guys, if you really look for a super cheap accomodation, just go straght to the Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui, you can find hostel rooms for 60hk$..the place sucks and we all agree on that, but its right in the city centre and im pretty sure no1 will die if you really are that picky try the single room at Las Vegas hostel (Chungking M. indeed), its 18 euros per night, small but clean and the guy at the reception is super nice Quote
trevelyan Posted October 15, 2008 at 07:01 AM Author Report Posted October 15, 2008 at 07:01 AM @imron - yeah. Canada gave in to logic a long time ago... Will check out Ratlike's (second) suggestion the next time I'm down there - at 60HKD a night I'd be a bit concerned about organ harvesting.... I know that these guys had double rooms from the fire escape map, but they seemed to be booked fairly solidly so the only room available was the one I got. Hotel room itself was small but functional. The bed was actually supposed to be a "double", but I wouldn't want to squeeze in there with a non-partner. Quote
Ratlike Posted October 15, 2008 at 07:09 AM Report Posted October 15, 2008 at 07:09 AM I was in a single room at the Chungking M. for almost 1 week, the place was not bad, room was so tiny i could hardly move but the bed was huge :o sure, dont expect people to clean your room or change the sheets 18 euros is a reasonable price tho. A bed for 6 euros (60hk$) per night is something you can simply dream of in HK other than at the Chungking's. I d be more concerned about cockroaches they book at the C. too Quote
imron Posted October 15, 2008 at 07:10 AM Report Posted October 15, 2008 at 07:10 AM at 60HKD a night I'd be a bit concerned about organ harvestingI'd be more concerned about whatever electronic valuables you had with you. HKD 60 a night is for the 8 person dorms. Quote
Ratlike Posted October 15, 2008 at 07:19 AM Report Posted October 15, 2008 at 07:19 AM safety lock? if you are looking for a low budget accomodation you must have one with you, always Quote
