JohnFields Posted October 21, 2008 at 08:54 PM Report Share Posted October 21, 2008 at 08:54 PM Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could help me out with a chinese address. I want to send a good friend of mine a postcard and some small gifts, but the address he gave me isn't really clear to me.. I kind off want my postcard to arrive as a surprise, so asking him for the full and right address format isnt really an option . That's why I wanted to ask here if you could help me out. I tried to search the web, but without any knowledge of china and the chinese language it has proven to be quite difficult for me. This is the info my friend gave me about his address: 闵行区虹梅路华光路,华光路,流晶逸彩,39号201. (When I run the chinese part trough a translator I get this: Huaguang Lu Hongmei Road Minhang District, Lu Huaguang, flow-Yi Cai Jing, 39, 201) My friend also gave me this info about his address: room 201, building 39, lane 460, hongzhong lu, minhang district, shanghai. To me is seems that "闵行区虹梅路华光路,华光路,流晶逸彩,39号201" and room "201, building 39, lane 460, hongzhong lu, minhang district, shanghai" are two different addresses, even though I know they should be the same. This is why I don't know what correct address should be. I hope someone here can help me out and maybe tell me what it should be... anon6969 Posted October 22, 2008 at 01:53 AM Report Share Posted October 22, 2008 at 01:53 AM Well the Chinese says she lives at the crossroads of Hongmei Road and Huaguang Road. The English obviously says Hongzhong Road. It's probably her English translation that is wrong. I'd use the Chinese address if I were you. (Maybe she wrote Hongzhong in English instead of Hongmei?) Lu Posted October 22, 2008 at 11:21 AM Report Share Posted October 22, 2008 at 11:21 AM I've never been to Shanghai, but it looks a bit like the Chinese address is what you would show to a taxi driver to get to the building, and the English address what you would write on a letter. I.e. the Chinese is directions, the English the address. Maybe you'd best wait for input from someone in Shanghai.
