NewUser Posted October 23, 2008 at 03:23 AM Report Posted October 23, 2008 at 03:23 AM At least from my normal ISP. Get 403 Forbidden error. Is there a blanket ban on Oz IP addresses for some reason? Quote
roddy Posted October 23, 2008 at 03:43 AM Report Posted October 23, 2008 at 03:43 AM Can you send an email to admin@ with the IP address that's causing problems - you can find your IP address here http://whatsmyip.org/ Haven't banned any new IP ranges recently, and certainly never intentionally banned Australia. NewUser Posted October 23, 2008 at 03:55 AM Author Report Posted October 23, 2008 at 03:55 AM Won 't be able to tell you that for a fortnight as I'm currently in China. The ISP is "ihug" if that's any help. Or maybe you could dig up the IP of my 2nd last post. Quote
roddy Posted October 23, 2008 at 04:58 AM Report Posted October 23, 2008 at 04:58 AM I'm not banning IP addresses in that range. It's possible that the hosting company is, although it's hard to see why. If you still have the same problem when you get back email me. Quote
NewUser Posted November 15, 2008 at 05:29 AM Author Report Posted November 15, 2008 at 05:29 AM An update - tried a few random anonymous proxy servers on return home and still got the 403/forbidden error. So it wasn't my IP that chinese-forums.com didn't agree with. Checked the firewall (Norton) settings, and found the browser/user agent in the Privacy settings was set to "blocked". Changed it to "permit" and bingo...access again. Very odd that a website would refuse access simply because a remote user's browser wasn't sending its brand of browser! Quote
roddy Posted November 15, 2008 at 06:32 AM Report Posted November 15, 2008 at 06:32 AM Turns out that a blank user agent was included in a large list of ones to ban I'd been using. I've removed it now as I suspect it doesn't make much odds to me either way. Quote
ABCinChina Posted February 19, 2009 at 02:48 PM Report Posted February 19, 2009 at 02:48 PM The forums seem very slow recently from both my home and work. Sometimes it just lags out and I get an error. But then I turn on Witopia (at home) and all is fine. Also, I noticed Youtube is much faster, yet Youku is much slower. Quote
