China invading Vietnam and India

I don't remember where I heard this, but supposedly before China invaded these two countries, there was some sort of "warnings" in the newspaper. Not necessarily an overt warning, but something deeper. When asked of this, I just presumed the person meant maybe there were some chengyu in the articles and those were the warnings? Am I right/wrong? If so, what were the chengyu, if anybody can think back that far/guess?
