woliveri Posted October 30, 2008 at 12:50 AM Report Posted October 30, 2008 at 12:50 AM Hi all, I'm looking for a company that will host my new site and I want to be able to access or modify that site if I am in China. When I was in Shanghai and tried accessing my then site the provider said we don't allow IPs from China (or something like that) to access our site. Can anyone recommend a Domain Hosting provider they are happy with and can be accessed from China? Thanks, Quote

stephanhodges Posted October 31, 2008 at 10:31 PM Report Posted October 31, 2008 at 10:31 PM The largest (and often the cheapest) domain REGISTRAR company on the planet is godaddy.com If you find one of their discount codes (easy to search for), then it's about $8 (US) for a year. That also includes some hosted space, in addition to the domain management. However, I only use them for domain management. Be sure you get your domain registered outside of China, as it is very hard (unless your Chinese is very good) to get it moved out of China in the future. There's a difference between a domain registrar (registration) and hosting. They are two separate things, and if you keep them separate, you can save a lot of money compared to a "package" deal. I have about 6-8 domains registered through them, Their customer service ranges from adequate to very good, depending on your luck Quote
stephanhodges Posted October 31, 2008 at 10:33 PM Report Posted October 31, 2008 at 10:33 PM Hopefully my previous message wasn't completely missing the target, since it's common for people to combine hosting and registration in the same company... Quote
