goodrichman Posted November 4, 2008 at 02:41 PM Report Posted November 4, 2008 at 02:41 PM HI am disabled British who would like to marry a Chinese. I am in Guangzhou at the moment. Is it possible? If so how to go on about it? I've tried researching it but due to my disability I am having difficulty getting through all the bureaucratic. Kind regards Eric Quote

BrandeX Posted November 4, 2008 at 03:48 PM Report Posted November 4, 2008 at 03:48 PM As I recall, I only had to attest to not having any communicable diseases (but no medical check was required). Quote
HashiriKata Posted November 4, 2008 at 06:11 PM Report Posted November 4, 2008 at 06:11 PM I don't think any government, Chinese included, in the modern time would dare stop a person marrying their citizen on the disability ground. So, all's up to you, sir! Quote

studentyoung Posted November 5, 2008 at 01:34 AM Report Posted November 5, 2008 at 01:34 AM HI am disabled British who would like to marry a Chinese. I am in Guangzhou at the moment. Is it possible? You can marry a Chinese girl as your wife, as long as you two love each other and are willing take the responsibility of marriage together. I don’t know why you need to mention “disability”. According to my understanding to the marriage law in my country, it doesn’t ban a Chinese girl from marrying a disabled British. In the law, it just mentions that someone with some kinds of fatal or dangerous contagions, infections, genetic diseases will be persuaded to postpone marriage. I don’t know how the procedure goes, but I can offer a link for your reference.Perhaps the Consul can give your more useful advice. goodrichman Posted November 5, 2008 at 08:27 AM Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 at 08:27 AM Sorry for not being clear enough. I now know I can marry chinese girl. But can i bring her back to UK as my wife to live there with me? Or even have dual citizenship, whilist being my self disable. She can work though. Eric Quote
roddy Posted November 5, 2008 at 08:45 AM Report Posted November 5, 2008 at 08:45 AM I think you'd need to apply for a settlement visa once you're married - again, check the embassy site, they'll have the information you need. No such thing as dual citizenship as far as China is concerned - either you're Chinese, or you're foreign. Quote

renzhe Posted November 5, 2008 at 07:16 PM Report Posted November 5, 2008 at 07:16 PM I don't think anybody here can give you better advice than the UK consulate or the responsible ministry. Even if there are active British posters who haven't yet chimed in, and who have married a Chinese person and brought them over, things could have changed since then. Quote
Shadowdh Posted November 5, 2008 at 10:44 PM Report Posted November 5, 2008 at 10:44 PM My wife is a British citizen and I am not (yet) I agree the site can be confusing and even ringing them is not much help alot of the time as the recorded message you invariably get says "we are busy call back later"... (thats nearly word for word a direct quote)... then they hang up... If she gets her spouse entry visa it will be valid for 2 years (at the moment but things change all the time)... she may need to undergo a series of tests (medical and other eg english perhaps) but all I had to do was provide my passport, fill in the application and pay the fee... it took about 2 days or so but that was in Australia... so it might be a different procedure in China... now once you get the spouse entry visa she is cleared to work but she cannot draw on public funds (eg benefits etc). after 2 years she can apply for her indefinite leave to remain, which is the step below citizenship... after that you can decide from there... hope this helps in some small way... but dont mind the others the consul is the best place for answers specific to your case...
