Entropy_Rising Posted November 5, 2008 at 03:56 PM Report Posted November 5, 2008 at 03:56 PM It's driving me nuts, I've been browsing through some online dictionaries and for the life of me I can't pin down the proper way to say "I voted for 'someone'" in Chinese. I voted for Obama/McCain. and Who did you vote for? are the sentences I'm basically trying to say. Scouring the dictionaries, I have found 投某人一票 vote for someone? 投某人票 vote for someone? 投票赞成~ vote in favor of ~ (is this for policies only? i.e. vote in favor of gun control? Or can you use this with people?) 投票支持~ vote for/in favor of ~ (policies? people? both?) 投票反对~ to vote against something 投票表决 to put something to vote, to vote on x So... 投奥巴马一票? 投麦凯恩票? 我投票支持了奥巴马? 我投票赞成了麦凯恩? 你投了谁票? I really don't know. Thanks. Quote
889 Posted November 5, 2008 at 04:09 PM Report Posted November 5, 2008 at 04:09 PM I'd use 给 gei: 给投票 gei toupiao , 投票给 toupiao gei etc. Quote
ImBmen Posted November 6, 2008 at 06:10 AM Report Posted November 6, 2008 at 06:10 AM I voted for Obama/McCain. 我(把票)投给了奥巴马。 我投了奥巴马一票。 Who did you vote for? 你(把票)投给谁了? 你投谁了一票? the words in bracket can be omitted.and the character '了' is important,it's used in the past tense.shows you already voted. trevelyan Posted November 6, 2008 at 11:02 AM Report Posted November 6, 2008 at 11:02 AM Why not just say who you 支持 and avoid the more complex construction? Quote
Lu Posted November 6, 2008 at 02:38 PM Report Posted November 6, 2008 at 02:38 PM Because to support is one thing, and to actually cast your vote for that person another. Quote
xiaocai Posted November 6, 2008 at 04:53 PM Report Posted November 6, 2008 at 04:53 PM Totally agree with Lu. And 投一票给ImBmen的答案. Quote
