roddy Posted November 15, 2008 at 01:09 PM Report Posted November 15, 2008 at 01:09 PM I don't think there is any fixed level - it depends on the university and on the degree you're doing. If you can't find the information online you'd need to get in touch with the university directly. I think it tends to be 6 for arts and 4 for sciences though. Quote
peekay Posted November 16, 2008 at 07:49 AM Report Posted November 16, 2008 at 07:49 AM The HSK requirements are fairly standardized across Chinese universities. For undergraduate admissions, the required standard is HSK-3 for science & technology degrees, or HSK-6 for Chinese literature degrees. Graduate studies usually require HSK-9. More at http://english.hanban.edu.cn/market/HanBanE/413810.htm HSK (Elementary-Intermediate) grade criterion is as follows: [...] Level 3, which is prescribed by the Ministry of Education, is the minimum level in Chinese proficiency for an overseas student to be admitted to a college or university in China as an undergraduate student in the field of science, engineering, agriculture or Western medicine. [...] Level 6, which is prescribed by the Ministry of Education, is the minimum level in Chinese proficiency for an overseas student to be admitted to a college or university in China as an undergraduate student in the fields of Chinese literature, history or Chinese medicine. simonlaing Posted November 17, 2008 at 07:08 AM Report Posted November 17, 2008 at 07:08 AM At Nanjing University a few years ago when I was thinking of doing the same thing. Undergrad minimum score was HSK4 and Postgrad was HSK6 unless you were majoring in Chinese and then it was higher. have fun, SImon:) Quote
peekay Posted November 17, 2008 at 12:33 PM Report Posted November 17, 2008 at 12:33 PM Today for Nanjing University I believe the minimum HSK level depends on the specific program. If applying for the John Hopkins - Nanjing joint "Certificate in Chinese" then the minimum is HSK level 5 (or for the 2-year M.A. program, HSK level 6.) But Nanjing's regular undergraduate programs follow the same Hanban guidelines as most everywhere else... HSK-3 for science majors, HSK-6 for the arts. Quote
