socksfan Posted November 20, 2008 at 04:42 AM Report Posted November 20, 2008 at 04:42 AM Greetings everybody: I've searched for other related topics, but have yet to find any. I've decided to study in Hong Kong in an undergraduate program for my bachelor's degree, participating in one of the many 3-year programs offered. I'm looking into business economics as a major, and as such, my choices for schools are: City U CUHK HKU I guess I'm looking for information regarding their standings. City U's program is more geared towards what I want to do (economics in the context of an asian economy), though CUHK provides courses towards that effect as well. HKU has a more general program, from what I've read of their details. Is one program better than the other? I know HKU is ranked higher internationally, but it seems CUHK has the highest ranked economics program in Hong Kong... or at least they say on their own website . Where are they located? Are they in the city center or are they further away? How long is typical commute? As for housing - how are the dorms? I read somewhere that there have been instances where there were curfews...is this so? Would I be better off trying to share an apartment with other students? Thanks for any input! Cheers Quote
skylee Posted November 20, 2008 at 11:59 PM Report Posted November 20, 2008 at 11:59 PM (edited) I can tell you where they are located. CityU is right in the city centre, adjacent to the Kowloon Tong railway station where 2 lines intersect. It is just meters away from one of the largest shopping malls in HK. HKU is imho the most prestigious univ in HK and the only one on HK island. It is on the mid-levels and is not currently served by any rail networks. It is not in the centre but HK Island is quite small so take a bus and you will be in Central in 10 mins. CUHK is in Taipo in the New Territories and is served by a railway station called University. I studied there. Among the three it is the one closest to the mainland. Definitely not in the city centre. CUHK is made up of 4 colleges and has a big, spread out campus. socksfan Posted November 22, 2008 at 12:48 AM Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 at 12:48 AM Thanks for the info! I checked out the CityU campus online and it seems pretty cool. My second question is more in line with scholarships and funding. I know of the scholarship listed here: http://www.chinese-forums.com/index.php?/topic/13983-csc-scholarship-archives As I said above, I intend to complete my degree at one of the aforementioned universities, but that choice kinda limits me in terms of scholarship availability. The majority I've seen assume that I will spend at most 1 year abroad, and then come back and complete my degree here at home. Does anyone have any information about scholarships that I would be eligible for? And by eligibility, I mean funding for students like me, going to start and complete a degree internationally? yonglin Posted November 22, 2008 at 01:22 AM Report Posted November 22, 2008 at 01:22 AM You may want to consider HKUST as well. They're pretty good for economics. Quote
