i am currently trying to read 中国农民调查. And right in the beginning i stumble into problems. How would you translate the following:

在现实与目标的夹缝中 ?

I tried, "The gap of reality and target/goal". But i am not sure about the "在...中"-construction.

I'd translate it as

which doesn't include the 'zai . .. zhong' bit, but hey . . .

The China Study Group were translating this. Not sure how far they got.
