NawNate Posted December 3, 2008 at 05:54 AM Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 05:54 AM Hello, I'm working as an private English tutor in Beijing, and I've been lucky enough to have been basically adopted by a group of Chinese kids at nearby schools. We go out for dinner and (lots) of drinks on a fairly regular basis, and I've decided I wanted to treat them to a little bit of fine Western culture, namely a few flaming Dr. Peppers. Downside is, finding the ingredients is a little bit difficult. I figure I can use any old 56% bai jiu sprinkled on the top for flame, regardless of taste, but I can't find a store which sells amaretto for the life of me. So, does anybody know of a liquor store in Beijing that carries it? Quote
roddy Posted December 3, 2008 at 06:36 AM Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 06:36 AM You can order it online if a trawl of Carrefour, Jenny Lou's, etc, doesn't turn any up. Incidentally, I understand Jishuitan Hospital to have one of the city's better burns units. Quote
chinesecanuck Posted December 3, 2008 at 08:00 AM Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 08:00 AM dude, are they old enough to drink??? don't tell me you try to make Mickey Finn. don't be too trailer...lol. even drinking is way cheaper in China, they are your students dude... i know, i know, in China it's not a big deal, still, i mean if someone saw i am drinking with my students here, i am sure i will get fired... it's not "speakeasy" there. NawNate Posted December 3, 2008 at 12:27 PM Author Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 12:27 PM I think you misunderstood me mate, probably my fault for not speaking clearly. When I say kids, I mean college students. Furthermore, incidentally, not my students, just folks that I've run into one way or another over the past few months. Icing on the cake is that I work privately, so there's nobody to fire me. Speakeasy! Thanks for the tips roddy. I hadn't previously found anything cheaper than 160rmb online, which i thought was a pretty good price considering it was Disaronno...I've never had Bol's Amaretto, but it's got an attractive price tag. My inner Luddite / suspicious bastard would like to buy it in person or at least pay COD though. As for the burn center, if I screwed up that badly, I am probably not in any state to remember it, but thank you for your thoughtful concern. Quote
