anonymoose Posted December 3, 2008 at 01:21 PM Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 01:21 PM What does 看在(某人)的份上 mean? A few examples from the web: 有的民工被他深深感动,拉住他的手说,要不是看在他的份上这个年无论如何也得赖在南京了。 我保留了单位的职务和工资,是因为岳涛看在她的份上,找到这个医院,又是钱其昌看在她 的份上。 母亲,脸白了,吓个半死,看在我们的份上,才不小心地原谅他了。 Thanks. Quote

anonymoose Posted December 3, 2008 at 01:46 PM Author Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 01:46 PM Thanks, skylee. So should it be 份 or 分? There seem to be more hits on Google for 份 in this structure. Quote
skylee Posted December 3, 2008 at 01:54 PM Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 01:54 PM So should it be 份 or 分? I don't really know. They make no difference to me. PS - also take a look at this thread -> 身份 vs. 身分 Quote
proson Posted December 3, 2008 at 01:56 PM Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 01:56 PM hi, i think it depends if it is a simplified character or a traditional one. the simplified one will miss the left hand side of the "份"... Quote
renzhe Posted December 3, 2008 at 09:05 PM Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 09:05 PM I don't think so. They are separate characters, but interchangeable in some contexts. Quote
Hofmann Posted December 4, 2008 at 01:34 AM Report Posted December 4, 2008 at 01:34 AM 分 is verb "to divide" "to distribute" or noun "minute" "cent" "tael/100" "centimeter" "branch" 份 is never a verb. As a noun its definition is more generally a portion, a part, or a role in something bigger. Example, “愁”可分爲“秋”與“心”的部份。 Quote
