Hi all,

My Chinese reading skills are very limited, to say the least, but normally I know how to deal with handwritten dictionaries like the 金文大字典, 金文常用字典, 新編甲骨文字典 etc. But the sentence in the attached image, from 甲骨文簡明詞典 about the character you 攸 is somehow gibberish to me. I cannot decipher the last character, and I also don't recognize the last character. Can anyone :help me? Thanks!

Thanks for the replies! Now I know the last character the sentence becomes even more cryptic to me. :roll: I'll see what I can make of it. Ah, the perils of etymological studies.....

攸 拼音: yōu

条=條 拼音:tiáo (形声字。从木,攸(yōu)声。本义:小枝)

the whole sentence above means:

the ancient people used 攸,while modern people use 條,referring to the same meaning
