itchy Posted December 3, 2008 at 10:59 PM Report Posted December 3, 2008 at 10:59 PM can anyone give me a translation on the bottom of a seal, using a limited knowledge ive worked out the characters are: 智愛兒得 ?? wisdom, knowledge, intelligence love, be fond of, like son, child, oneself; final part obtain, get, gain, acquire. what do they mean as a whole? thanks very much for your help Quote
jbradfor Posted December 4, 2008 at 09:13 PM Report Posted December 4, 2008 at 09:13 PM I don't think it is supposed to have any meaning as a whole besides what each character means individually. Think of seeing an engraving on a ring or something that says in English "peace wealth happiness". It has no other meaning as a whole I'm no expert on this, but the characters chosen seem a bit weird. I don't recall ever having seen 兒 or 得 used as good-luck characters. Anyone else? Quote
zigzagzerg Posted December 5, 2008 at 12:24 AM Report Posted December 5, 2008 at 12:24 AM It doesn't mean anything in Chinese. Quote
Javer Chen Posted December 23, 2008 at 02:54 AM Report Posted December 23, 2008 at 02:54 AM it looks like a 长命锁. maybe it means my son 智(maybe the son's name) possesses this metal(长命锁). Quote
