Qiuyue Posted December 4, 2008 at 07:18 AM Report Posted December 4, 2008 at 07:18 AM Hi My wife, who is chinese, needs to learn some english. She knows a few other languages already and is a fast learner. School is too slow for her. Can anyone recommend some books, internetsites, softwares or other methods/materials which she might find valuable as study material. We´d be greatful! Thanks Quote
rezaf Posted December 4, 2008 at 08:16 AM Report Posted December 4, 2008 at 08:16 AM well the best method for learning any language is to start reading a good learner's dictionary and memorising the important words and examples, however it's good for intermediate and advanced learners who already know most of the grammar and can recognise the important words. I think Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary is the best one. Quote
anon6969 Posted December 4, 2008 at 11:56 AM Report Posted December 4, 2008 at 11:56 AM She could get an English-speaking lover. Quote
roddy Posted December 4, 2008 at 01:27 PM Report Posted December 4, 2008 at 01:27 PM What kind of level does she have currently? If she's already learned other languages I'm assuming she's got at least college level English. Quote
Lu Posted December 4, 2008 at 04:00 PM Report Posted December 4, 2008 at 04:00 PM Any books that she would normally like to read, but in English. Quote
yonglin Posted December 5, 2008 at 12:03 AM Report Posted December 5, 2008 at 12:03 AM Or give her a subscription for TIME magazine for Christmas present. The Economist is good too, if she's into that stuff. Quote
Lu Posted December 23, 2008 at 03:54 PM Report Posted December 23, 2008 at 03:54 PM Personally I find the Economist really advanced reading, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with less than university-level English. Quote
