I just want to ask what the usage of 一言为定, yiyanweiding is. my book says its a chengyu meaning 'its settled' but how do i use it in a sentence?

You can use it on its own. For example:

A: 你明天给我介绍你的妹妹好吗?

B: 一言为定!

It's not a proper example.

It's usally used when you make a deal.

一言为定 means it's a deal。

甲:下一次汪峰演唱会我们俩一起去看好吗?

乙:好,一言为定!

OK then. I've modified it slightly:

A: 你明天给我介绍你的妹妹,我给你50块,好吗?

B: 一言为定!

The examples given are all slightly 'off'. 一言为定 is used after the agreement is made between the people speaking and is used to emphasise the fact that 'you said it, now you've got to act on it, there's no turning back, it is fixed'. It certainly does not need to be a monetary transaction, but in the example given when A asks B to introduce his sister; B should say OK and then it is up to A to confirm with 一言为定.

That sounds reasonable.
