roddy Posted December 12, 2008 at 11:27 AM Report Posted December 12, 2008 at 11:27 AM I just finished watching this. A submariner is left with mild brain damage after a training accident and is discharged from the navy, but keeps up his role as protector of the people by taking on petty criminals around his home town of Qingdao. Meanwhile Hong Kong gangsters are in town hoping to get their tattooed hands on a certain priceless antique. Do their paths cross? Indeed they do. I randomly acquired this and didn't know anything about it, but found it great fun. The fight scenes are really well done, there's a love story which isn't too saccharine and I realized coming up to the end that I didn't know if our hero would make it out alive but that I really really wanted him to. Reminded me quite a bit of Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai (not seen it? you should) with the hero with his code of honor and the voice overs. Still quite a different movie though. Anyone else seen it? Outofin Posted December 21, 2008 at 04:20 AM Report Posted December 21, 2008 at 04:20 AM This movie made me watch 野兽刑警 again. 野兽刑警 ( 1998 ) is an average HK movie, except its last 20 minutes. Definitely Anthony Wong's "finest" moment. One of the most thrilling scene I've ever seen. That's what I would call a 硬汉. Quote
