penglimei Posted December 16, 2008 at 09:21 AM Report Posted December 16, 2008 at 09:21 AM Hi This is kind of a longshot, but has anyone tried to do this? I'm hoping to be able to fly my dog as checked baggage/cargo on Air China from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar. Does anyone know if this is allowed (some airlines say yes, some say no, Air China is just confusing), and if it is, how much it costs? Or, I guess the alternative: Can dogs go on the Trans-Siberian railway as cargo? thank you! you can email me at siaopeng@gmail.com if you want, or post back to here. Quote
gougou Posted December 16, 2008 at 01:00 PM Report Posted December 16, 2008 at 01:00 PM Or, I guess the alternative: Can dogs go on the Trans-Siberian railway as cargo?Having spent the best part of my trip from Moscow to Omsk debating with the attendant whether that huge German Shepherd could be asked to vacate the bunk I had bought a ticket for, I can assure you that, allowed or not, dogs do travel on the Trans-Siberian. penglimei Posted December 16, 2008 at 01:22 PM Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 at 01:22 PM Haha that's a good story. How long ago was this? Moscow and Omsk are both in Russia though... Do you know anything about the China - Mongolia leg? The Chinese tend to view dogs not as pets but more as... Food or cargo. I don't know how it is in Russia, are they more lenient? Quote

gougou Posted December 16, 2008 at 01:59 PM Report Posted December 16, 2008 at 01:59 PM That was about 4 years ago. I didn't have to fight for my bunk between Mongolia and China, so I can't tell you whether regulations are different there. Would be strange, though, as you can take the train non-stop from Moscow to Beijing. Quote
penglimei Posted December 17, 2008 at 01:46 AM Author Report Posted December 17, 2008 at 01:46 AM I'm going Beijing to Mongolia though, not Russia to Mongolia/Beijing, which is why I worry that the Chinese might be more harsh/difficult than the ticket takers on the Russian side. Has anyone else taken the trans siberian from China and seen dogs on it? Quote
