Best reading/writing program for fluent speaker at a Beijing University

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone had any information regarding the universities in Beijing that offer that best reading/writing program for fluent Chinese speakers?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I'm sorry - perhaps this is a rather useless response to your question, but if you are already a fluent speaker, do you really need to attend a university course to learn to read and write? After all, all you need to do is remember characters, which mainly will rely on you spending time to memorise and practice them - for which I don't think a university course would be particularly useful. If I were you, I'd just get a few books for learning to read basic Chinese, and work through them slowly building up your written vocabulary. There are also many good websites that can help you with writing (showing the stroke order).

Anyway, hopefully someone else will be able to answer your question.

www.skritter.com will help you learn the characters - and is addictive! I agree that you shouldn't need formal classes if all you need now is reading and writing.

Skritter + "Reading and Writing Chinese Characters" by William McNaughton + a good pinyin input method (sogou or google) + a dictionary program like PowerWord or StarDict + a QQ account + maybe some good easy books, these things would get you VERY far, even if you were learning how to speak at the same time, which means you have a VERY big advantage over most of the rest of us! And if you use these methods, you'll save money verses taking classes as well!

Good luck and Jiayou!
