I'm planning on studing in Beijing this year at BLCU for a 12 months course starting in February 16.

There is someone else that will study in Beijing (BLCU - Beijing Language and Culture University,北京 语言文化大学) for 1 year beginning from February 16th ?

I was on a visit to Beijing in November-December 2008 and stayed in the accommodation in the BLCU conference centre building. There are loads of adverts for places to rent around the campus - adverts both on campus and in the streets outside the campus west gate. i.e. no shortage of places off campus to rent. There seem to be lots of students living off campus sharing apartments. So, once you're there, getting a place should be easy - just a question of finding what you want at a price that suits you. Once you're there, you can actually see what sort of thing's on offer. So, my recommendation would be to try and book yourself into something on campus for just the first few weeks or a month, while you get to know the area and then can choose what would really suit you.

Hi,

i will be going to BLCU in feb too and i have applied for the one year course but then found out that it pretty intensive (8.30am - 6pm!)

i am thinking of changing to the 6 month regular course. from reading blogs and posts etc it seems that the regular course is more than enough as we'll need time to actualy go out and practise the language!

hope all goes well!

hello/ni hao

i was hoping (fingers crossed) that an existing student of BLCU could point me in the right direction please......???

i am very very keen to learn mandarin/chinese @ BLCU and require clarification on the following queries:

1. what is the course structure/ hours per day, hours per week, is there 1:1 tuition of the one year academic course in mandarin/chinese ???

2. is the one semester course with 1:1 tuition (30 hours week) comparable with the results of the 1 year course ???

3. accomodation - dorms @ BLCU......any tips/advice ???

welcome any thoughts & your experiences

thank you

cheers

For some reason the last post ended up in my email. Again my knowledge of the 1yr program is limited. For the overview of courses check http://www.blcu.edu.cn/lzb/lx/english/index.htm

As far as I know the 1yr program starts class at 8.30-12.30

There are several courses you can add that will be in the afternoon/evening, like HSK training. The regular course will exist out of grammar, listening, spoken and sometimes comprehensive reading.

Personally I think that the 30hrs/week is a little too much. You will have 6hrs a day of class. I think that 4 is more then enough. After 4hrs the productivity drops. But maybe someone that has actually done 30hrs a week can shine a light on this.

Housing this fall has been crazy! BLCU recruited so many ppl that all the dorms were booked solid. Even apt were hard to find. I would advice to book a dorm in advance. In contradiction of my previous posts, you can book dorms in advance. I didn't know that either. But I'm not sure if you can book all dorms in advance. Conference and dorm 17 i'm sure you can. Regarding to living outside campus. I think it's smart to come here 1 month before the semester starts. That way you can find a apt easily.

It has been crazy this semester and there was like a housing crisis over here. Not sure if it will be like this spring 2010.

I still haven't found the time yet to write the BLCU guide. I'll try to do it asap. I've just been crazy finding accomedation for the last week. Now I have it I'll try to write some basic info about BCLU

Let me know if there are any more questions.
