Is there anything that one can watch on that site for chinese practice that doesn't give one that feeling? Quote

Depending on your level of Chinese, you may be even more limited in what you can watch. Did you try this: http://tw.sugoideas.com/drama-2008/police-et-vous/ ? It's not primarily a romantic comedy, like most of the shows on that website, so you might like it more. If you can find Japanese TV series with Chinese subtitles, you might have better luck finding something more up your alley. On the channel in Taiwan that shows all Japanese TV shows, there's an interesting show called 詐骗游戲, I believe. Within the series the Japanese themselves sometimes use an English title for the show/game, which is "Liar Game." I tried searching for something online, but didn't see anything, other than some lame youtube video made by a kid that is a rip off of the TV series. It's worth mentioning that despite what you may think about the shows on that website, it's a great way to not only practice language, but also to learn about modern Taiwanese pop culture. Anyway, if you happen to be living in Taiwan, like me, watching the shows also gives you something to chit-chat about with locals. Quote

What kind of a show are you looking for? There are some recommendations over in the TV show forum. Some quality shows worth watching are 孽子 (Taiwan) and 空镜子 (Mainland). If you're into historical epics, then 雍正王朝 (Qing, Mainland) and 大明王朝 1566 (Ming, Mainland) are excellent. For later period, 走向共和 (late Qing, early Republic, mainland) is also great. Quote

But i have lived in taiwan and i guess it just really drives me around the bend how insidious and pervasive that nonsense is there. Quote
