As many places to study as grains of rice...

It sometimes seems that the more people I meet, the more confusing choosing a university in China to study Chinese becomes.

I currently teach English in a small town in Anhui province and I am planning on spending the next 2 years (starting this fall semester) studying Chinese in a university here. My conversational ability is OK and I am currently working on acquiring more characters.

Is is possible to find a university that has a good and intensive program and that also is located in a city that has culture (aside from shopping and KTV) and a decent accent?

Does such a place even exist?

I really appreciate any help at all.... thanks!

I've been looking around for the past 5 months and I still can't settle on a place outside of Beijing and Shanghai. Well I've got my eyes set on a Chengdu for a number of reasons, but as you'll notice by my thread, still having some issues...

Culture here is rapidly becoming a thing you purchase along with your admissions ticket.

IMHO, I prefer Yunnan Lijiang, you can still find some Naxi culture here (most has sold out to the tourist trade). Not to mention the fact the environment here is the best of China...

Also, the local Teacher college is one of the most affordable places to study Putonghua in China..

cheers

Quanxie, or anyone :))

Could you please share more details reagarding long-term (at least one semester) studying Chinese in Lijang. I was looking into it for past week, but didn't find any contact details of scoold or anything like that.

I found ot that, there are several places:

1. Shangrila Learning Centre - their website is currently not available

2. Yunnan College Academy of Tourism and Culture at Lijiang

3. Teacher's colledge

Does anybody know any info about these places?

I would very appreciate any info regarding that matter.

Thanks!

Taipei. Several good programs (I went to NTNU's Mandarin Training Center), most people speak Mandarin to each other, even though there's also Taiwanese around, great weather, and not as much culture as in Beijing but still enough to keep one entertained.

Lijiang does indeed look like a beautiful place to study in.

Hmm, I think to myself; why go to Jiamusi when I could just go here? Why be subjected to such brutal temperatures? I'll just keep telling myself that their Mandarin is better, I guess.
