HerrPetersen Posted February 7, 2009 at 03:59 PM Report Posted February 7, 2009 at 03:59 PM (edited) I think it would be a nice idea to have a place where everyone can post links to interesting, educational, funny and you-name-it having-to-do-with China youtube(or other videosite)-links. I came across one, where some 民工 (are they real?) perform to "we will rock you".Also if I was born Chinese I would have probably turned out something like So now it's up to you, keep them coming! Meng Lelan Posted February 7, 2009 at 09:36 PM Report Posted February 7, 2009 at 09:36 PM This is a great idea. Here's my favorite: It reminds me of the school for the deaf that I worked at in Beijing. They can't hear class bells, so they use that red flashing light that tells class is starting. I don't know why they put English instead of Chinese captions on this one, or maybe there isn't a version with Chinese captions?? Quote

imron Posted February 15, 2009 at 09:33 AM Report Posted February 15, 2009 at 09:33 AM 《草泥马之歌》. I'm not sure what's funnier, the song or the images of the Alpacas (AKA the Grass Mud Horse). Quote
rob07 Posted February 15, 2009 at 11:12 AM Report Posted February 15, 2009 at 11:12 AM 草泥马 is funny and he seems to be everywhere now. For example, on the thread about the CCTV building fire someone has posted a link to pictures of the fire with 草泥马 photoshopped in. They were pretty good. Quote

randall_flagg Posted February 18, 2009 at 10:37 AM Report Posted February 18, 2009 at 10:37 AM This one is really upsetting. Someone filmed a lady who had just missed her flight at HK airport and she is having what must be a massive nervous breakdown. It is quite sad to witness, but from a language point, I think it is important to see how people express themselves when they are upset. Can anyone make heads and tails of this? I for one can't! Meng Lelan Posted February 19, 2009 at 12:48 AM Report Posted February 19, 2009 at 12:48 AM What a breakdown. Watching this reminded me of how me and my now-ex missed a flight from Europe to the US about 20 years ago and he stormed off all around the entire airport yelling obscenities. Quote

Meng Lelan Posted February 19, 2009 at 01:56 AM Report Posted February 19, 2009 at 01:56 AM Yes, a good call, he was absolutely crazy! And back to that video, was that a husband-wife pair we were seeing there, plus airline staff? I couldn't quite figure it out. Quote
lzreading Posted February 19, 2009 at 09:29 PM Report Posted February 19, 2009 at 09:29 PM '草泥马' is not a horse or any other animal. The netizens created it to avoid the online censorship because it sounds similar to that swear word which means 'f**k your mother'. Not sure why Alpacas is chosen to represent it. So unfortunate! Another ones are like '卧槽泥马', '马勒戈壁'. Maybe you can figure out what they mean with the above clue. Quote
