New Members sherry_yao Posted February 9, 2009 at 01:26 AM New Members Report Posted February 9, 2009 at 01:26 AM Most people will agree that there are so many beautiful and romantic places in China. But what's the most romantic one? Maybe everyone has his own answer!! For me, I love Zhuhai most. I lived in Zhuhai for two years while studying at Sun Yat-sen University. Having a walk or flying kites with lover on the Lover's Road is one of the best thing in life!! What's your point? Share it!! Quote
nat_S Posted February 9, 2009 at 12:32 PM Report Posted February 9, 2009 at 12:32 PM west lake in Hangzhou. A love story called Madame White Snake happened there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madame White Snake Quote
necroflux Posted February 10, 2009 at 04:05 AM Report Posted February 10, 2009 at 04:05 AM Anywhere where I'm not assaulted by people trying to sell watches and DVD's. Which, coincidentally, makes the answer for me Hangzhou as well - very beautiful! Quote
kafei Posted February 10, 2009 at 06:23 AM Report Posted February 10, 2009 at 06:23 AM Houhai in Beijing, in the evening. The lake was frozen and there were people ice skating on it. My wife and I joined another couple and we walked around the lake. There was also the boat ride alongside the Bund in Shanghai. Quote

simonlaing Posted February 11, 2009 at 02:50 AM Report Posted February 11, 2009 at 02:50 AM Watching the sunrise on Yellow Mountain was pretty romantic, along with wandering along the peaks of the mountain with little wisps of mist adding to the fairy land feel of it. Another fairy land place with great scenery would be Zhang Jia Jie in Hunan province. With lime stone spires you feel like you're walking among the clouds. Paddling a boat slowly down the river of shou xi hu in spring in Yangzhou was pretty nice with the flowers out in bloom and the willow trees over hanging the river.. There are others but these are ones that first come to mind. Have fun, Simon:) Quote
forourluck Posted February 11, 2009 at 01:29 PM Report Posted February 11, 2009 at 01:29 PM For me, It's Zhuhai in Guangdong Province. Having a walk on the lover's road there is very romantic. Quote
Magnus1977 Posted February 16, 2009 at 03:28 AM Report Posted February 16, 2009 at 03:28 AM great question. Anywhere there are no DVD sellers... HILARIOUS! WHY WEST LAKE in HANGZHOU??? any foreigners saying that?? I bet it's all Chinese... I went once and it was nothing special!!! I know the story about some snake/woman... but I found nothing romantic about that place. Most romantic for me... walking along the french concession in Shanghai... at night. Walking amidst the old old buildings near the bund but away from the beggars and the crowds. People's park (people's square) in Shanghai. anywhere I'm with my wife really... Quote
jbradfor Posted February 16, 2009 at 05:32 PM Report Posted February 16, 2009 at 05:32 PM Sunrise over Sun Moon Lake in Taiwan. Victoria Peak at night in Hong Kong. Almost no where on the mainland, actually, now that I think of it. But that's probably because we've been mostly in the cities, and I find cities in China to be too crowded, too noisy, too polluted to be romantic. [Exciting, yes, romantic, no.] I'm sure the rural areas are very nice. Maybe Xitang would be the closest. West Lake is nice; looking at the fog in the morning from the hills is pretty. [OK, OK, I know it's smog, I just tell myself it's fog.] Houhai is also nice. But it must be me, neither seemed very romantic. Quote
Magnus1977 Posted February 16, 2009 at 06:09 PM Report Posted February 16, 2009 at 06:09 PM Oh I forgot. We took a trip in the summer to Chongming Island near Shanghai... we visited relatives there...and it was really nice. We had a table full of food... the sun going down... relatives there...but still so romantic. It's the country side and the stars were out and the sky getting blacker and blacker and a faint light on so that we could still eat. We weren't cold...just eating and loving it. Quote
randall_flagg Posted February 16, 2009 at 08:50 PM Report Posted February 16, 2009 at 08:50 PM Been thinking about this for days, and there is one definite answer for me: Nature! You can find beautiful and romantic spots almost anywhere in China, you just have to ditch your Lonely Planet and look around the corner. There are so many great places with almost no people, just me and my fishing pole.... Quote

Guest kangkang Posted February 23, 2009 at 09:00 PM Report Posted February 23, 2009 at 09:00 PM 1. West lake in Hangzhou, it is kind of traditional Chinese romantic, although it would be a bit of diffcult for foreigner to undstand the romance there... 2. Li Jiang in Yunnan is a another great place, which is also known as "city of meeting lover" Quote
