Guest Posted February 9, 2009 at 05:40 AM Report Posted February 9, 2009 at 05:40 AM I've recently finished writing a Firefox extension that allows pinyin input with tone marks. It's very similar to the online tool I wrote in the past, but it should be much, much more convenient. It's cross-platform and it's a button that sits in your browser's status bar, so it won't get in your way like an IME would when you don't want it. It's version 1.0, but it has already been tested on Mac, Windows (XP and Vista) and Linux. The download and the instructions are on here: Pinyin Input Firefox Extension Quote
Shadowdh Posted February 9, 2009 at 05:46 PM Report Posted February 9, 2009 at 05:46 PM I tried to install this but as I am using FF3.1beta2 its not compatible and cannot install, I like your site though... very nice. Quote
Guest Posted February 9, 2009 at 06:13 PM Report Posted February 9, 2009 at 06:13 PM That's because I wrote that it was compatible with versions 1.5 to 3.0.* in the install.rdf. I just changed that to 3.* It should work for you now. I hope. Quote
Shadowdh Posted February 9, 2009 at 06:19 PM Report Posted February 9, 2009 at 06:19 PM Hi there, it is still not installing. Its still saying incompatible with 3.1b2... thanks for trying... Quote
Guest Posted February 10, 2009 at 04:24 PM Report Posted February 10, 2009 at 04:24 PM Apparently X.* versions aren't acceptable. Maybe jumping up an entire version number is the way to go. Quote
PangPang Posted February 10, 2009 at 06:33 PM Report Posted February 10, 2009 at 06:33 PM You probably just want to specify the maxVersion in your install.rdf as 3.1b2. Quote
Shadowdh Posted February 10, 2009 at 06:49 PM Report Posted February 10, 2009 at 06:49 PM please forgive my computer iliterateness but would it be better to put maxversion to 3.3 or higher to cope with later updates? Quote
PangPang Posted February 10, 2009 at 06:59 PM Report Posted February 10, 2009 at 06:59 PM Well, it sounds like a good idea, but in practice that could cause problems because it cannot be assumed that a particular extension is compatible with a future version of Firefox. As a result, I believe Mozilla wants extension developers to test against new versions of Firefox as they get released and set supported version numbers appropriately. Quote
Shadowdh Posted February 10, 2009 at 07:30 PM Report Posted February 10, 2009 at 07:30 PM Oh I see... that makes sense... thanks for clarifying... Quote
jslee Posted March 2, 2009 at 09:15 PM Report Posted March 2, 2009 at 09:15 PM You could try using Nightly Tester Tools (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6543) to override compatibility checks. Quote
feihong Posted June 19, 2011 at 10:02 PM Report Posted June 19, 2011 at 10:02 PM Just want to mention that I had a small problem trying to install directly from the website when using Firefox 3.6 on Linux. Had to download the .xpi file first, then drag it into a Firefox window. Afterwards worked like a charm. Quote

imron Posted July 15, 2011 at 10:29 PM Report Posted July 15, 2011 at 10:29 PM What OS do you use? If windows, then you might consider something like Pinyinput (see the link in my signature). Quote
towelie Posted July 18, 2011 at 11:25 AM Report Posted July 18, 2011 at 11:25 AM Looks good. Thanks. Quote
