SamODell Posted February 14, 2009 at 08:03 PM Report Posted February 14, 2009 at 08:03 PM Hello, I'm wondering if anyone had worked with either of the following Companies in China... Will-Excel TESOL Diploma Program http://www.willexcel.com/TESOL/main.htm They will teach you to become a Teacher while paying you for it...they offer a local school sponsorship method for payment of the fee's Just $200 to pay if you get an offer (normal $1500) This is for 500hrs teaching experience and includes accommodation...they do not mention the salary as it says its dependent on the school which you work with. 2nd is - Institute of Field Research and Expedition (IFRE) http://ifrevolunteers.org/china/paid_English_teaching.php They offer salary from $200 per month and housing and food...although there is a fee of $769 to get on the program and they do not get you a TESOL type qualification, although for a longer contract they pay airfare... Is a fee like this normal to get a job? If you have worked with either of these and can give me some idea as to if they are good or not I would be very happy to hear from you... I am also very interested in finding other low level teaching Jobs, I do not have a degree so i know i will not be able to get some of the higher jobs but for now I just want to try it out for a year or so.... If anyone knows of a good company or web site with info about some more companies which you think are good i would be very happy to hear from you. Thanks Quote
Senzhi Posted February 15, 2009 at 04:59 AM Report Posted February 15, 2009 at 04:59 AM although there is a fee of $769 to get on the program I've never paid to get a job, volunteering or not. Neither will I ever do so. I get paid (even if it's only covering my expenses in a volunteering position). Quote
BrandeX Posted February 16, 2009 at 04:21 AM Report Posted February 16, 2009 at 04:21 AM #1 is ok, #2 is essentially a scam imo. Quote
roddy Posted February 16, 2009 at 04:28 AM Report Posted February 16, 2009 at 04:28 AM #1 is run by a member on here, kdavid - have a search for his posts and you'll find some more information. #2 I'd agree with the above, steer clear, or consider a paid program which is well established - CIEE's Teach in China program, for example. kdavid Posted February 25, 2009 at 01:59 PM Report Posted February 25, 2009 at 01:59 PM #1 is run by a member on here, kdavid - have a search for his posts and you'll find some more information We've recently started a blog to try and show more of what we're doing on a week-to-week basis. Sure, all of this could go on the main website (and it will in time!) but blogging is quicker as it doesn't require making and uploading separate web pages, etc. You can check out a ton of pictures, video testimonials, Harbin/Will Excel in the news and so forth on our blog here: http://willexceltesol.blogspot.com/ Quote
kdavid Posted March 6, 2009 at 11:07 PM Report Posted March 6, 2009 at 11:07 PM I tried to put this up the other day, but YouTube was blocked. We've started a YouTube Channel for all of our video testimonials and other things. Anyone interested in the program can view them here: http://www.youtube.com/user/WillExcelTESOL Quote
