my3rdlang Posted February 15, 2009 at 08:00 AM Report Posted February 15, 2009 at 08:00 AM I am going to start working soon. Finding shirts and blazers are a breeze as I have the typical Chinese upper body, but I couldn't even find 1 in 20 pants cut for my height that are not ill-fitting. I am having the hardest time finding pants as my hips are very big for my waist by Chinese standards. My waist is 26.5'' & hips are 38.5''. Even a waist size 28'' pants is skin tight on my butt but gape too much at my waist. A good minority of American & European brands fit me decently, but they cost a few hundred to a few thousand RMB in China. I have already considered tailoring my pants if I couldn't find decently priced ones that fit. Any recommendations on where I could find decently fitting pants under RMB 150 will be greatly appreciated Quote
imron Posted February 15, 2009 at 08:38 AM Report Posted February 15, 2009 at 08:38 AM I would suggest tailoring, I'm quite tall and it often makes sense for me to get stuff tailored rather than try to find stuff that fits. Tailors are cheap and plenty. Quote
teaforme Posted February 15, 2009 at 09:26 AM Report Posted February 15, 2009 at 09:26 AM 1. Go to a tailor. You'll finally get that PERFECT pair of pants. If your "tailor vocabulary" is a bit lacking, bring your current favorite pair of pants and point out the features you like about it so the tailor can copy them for you (e.g. pleats/no pleats, pockets, etc). Note that not all tailors are the same, so ask around to see who does good work. 2. If you live in south China or if you plan to take a holiday soon, make a trip to Hong Kong for clothes. American and European clothing brands are reasonably priced there. 3. Where in China do you live? A lot of the bigger cities have export clothing markets. These might be worth hitting up as they have laowai sizes and you can haggle for prices. Quote
my3rdlang Posted February 25, 2009 at 09:55 AM Author Report Posted February 25, 2009 at 09:55 AM Thanks for the suggestions. I live in Shanghai. I will be going to HK to process by visa... I guess it's good timing as I will be able to shop during my stay there. Quote
