Hi, does anyone know of any (free) digital ChengYu dictionaries? If it includes the accompanying stories great, if it includes categories (e.g. love, health, war, etc) that is great, too.

Not a dictionary, but I've recently found a lot of Chinese cartoons explaining what 最常用的成语s mean by telling their stories that I think very useful, and that's why I'll share these;

You can try online dictionaries 在线词典 :

快典网－＞成语词典大全－＞常用成语分类

a really good one with chengyu sorted by categories, for example: appearances ---形体－＞外貌－＞美貌 or emotions: 感情－亲爱｜憎恨｜惊惧｜欣喜｜愤怒｜悔悟｜激情｜悲痛｜思念｜犹豫｜忧虑｜情绪｜etc.

and have a look also 成语分类大全 a list of chengyu sorted by categories (including成语填空练习)

Might as well post this too. This is actually the last post in the link leeyah posted which contained a forum.

I plan on knocking that out before taking on kdd. Kdd looks a little too comprehensive for me. So I plan on comparing to my 成语小词典 to weed out least commonly used ones.

in my opinion, the best chengyu dictionary available online is the one published by the Taiwanese Ministry of Education:
