adrianlondon Posted February 27, 2009 at 02:15 AM Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 02:15 AM The song "9 million bicycles in Beijing" isn't popular any more; maybe because she lost count and wasn't sure whether to include those electric ones that people half heartedly peddle everywhere. Anyway ... I'm in Beijing for a few days, until 4th March to be precise, and I would love to borrow a bike! I know I could just hire one, or even buy a cheapo one, but I'm more likely to get one which works if I borrow one that someone else has already used ;) Anyone got one in Beijing that they're not using for a few days? If so, please let me know. I can pay you in witty repartee and British sarcasm. Oh ok, I can buy you beer, lunch or even a Starbucks coffee. I could buy a new bike for two lattes, I know, but I'm social. Quote
gougou Posted February 27, 2009 at 02:20 AM Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 02:20 AM There are bikes that can be rented officially, normally near subway stations I think. Look for plenty of blue bikes locked together by a big chain. Quote
flameproof Posted February 27, 2009 at 02:52 AM Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 02:52 AM ¥300 per week, I think a new one is 150 or so: http://www.bikerental.cn/Bicycles.htm I guess most commercial rentals will be aimed at foreigners, with matching prices. Quote
roddy Posted February 27, 2009 at 02:57 AM Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 02:57 AM No, there's a network of rental bikes now, often in handy locations - Adrian, if you fail on finding a free loan, the Sculpting in Time at the south gate of BNU has bikes for rent. They're a bit clunky, but I remember hearing the prices and thinking they were reasonable. Quote
flameproof Posted February 27, 2009 at 03:14 AM Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 03:14 AM Can you rent in A and return in B? Any idea about the rates? If you pass by any - please take a pix and post it here! I would definitely by interested too if prices are moderate! Quote
gougou Posted February 27, 2009 at 03:54 AM Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 03:54 AM Here's a picture and a map of rental locations from the official Olympics website (map in IE only). It seems you can bring your bike back to any of the stations in the map; I doubt it has all the locations, though, as I have seen those bikes outside Andingmen as well. Quote
imron Posted February 27, 2009 at 04:11 AM Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 04:11 AM Were you going to post a link, or does that only appear in IE too Quote
gougou Posted February 27, 2009 at 05:12 AM Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 05:12 AM Hmm, let me see if I can find that again... Here it is. Quote

adrianlondon Posted February 27, 2009 at 01:56 PM Author Report Posted February 27, 2009 at 01:56 PM Thanks everyone! I also found a place not far from my hotel (which, for future reference is pretty good, right on Houhai Beiyan, called Lotus Place) which would let me rent a bike for 4 days for 60y. Pretty good. I wasn't able to get gougou's link to work in either IE or Firefox; oh well. Quote
roddy Posted March 9, 2009 at 02:30 PM Report Posted March 9, 2009 at 02:30 PM Can you rent in A and return in B? Any idea about the rates? If you pass by any - please take a pix and post it here! I believe you can, the sign says 2Y an hour, and maybe. Quote
