how can I translate this into Chinese?

the meaning I am trying to convey: need to work hard just to maintain the current situation/level

Maybe it can be translated into this: 只有不断的努力,才能保持你目前的水平.

another suggestion came through today from someone at work:

逆水行船,不进则退。

It means literally, "keep forging ahead, or you will fall behind"

what about the second one, and the meaning I put into it is: when you dreams or ambitions are realised your life becomes empty of meaning...
