My husband and I are both interested in going to China to study Chinese, but as I was looking through several university websites, I was unable to find information about couples living together. Does anyone have any experience with this?

No reason it should be any problem. You're generally better off renting an apartment if you're here for any length of time, if you're going into university accommodation just mention it when you're applying. I guess some university dormitories may have male / female floors, but I can't imagine they'd be that strict about it for a married couple.

Unless you are dead set on enrolling in a universtity for your studies, you can solve your logistic problem rather neatly by attending a private school which furnishes you an apartment as part of the package. I attended an excellent one in Harbin last summer and would recommend you have a look to see if it meets your needs. The website is:

The uni I was studying at had two married couples in the dorm. They had a double room and one couple even had their kids with them... so I think if you are open from the beginning then it should not be a problem...

No problem whatsoever. There have been several couples here to study. Including one with 5 blonde daughters! That confused the locals!

How do you feel about teaching English while studying?

A lot of people will argue that teaching English will only hamper any efforts to learn the language, which is true if all you're doing is hanging out with students and colleagues who want to practice their English.

However, if you're in a small to medium-sized cities, and only speak English when you're working (~ 18 - 22 hours a week), and serious about studying, you can become conversational/fluent in a short amount of time.

No problem at the Uni I'm at however it is WAY cheaper to live in the city and a lot more convenient to do things as well.
