fynoda Posted March 6, 2009 at 12:56 AM Report Posted March 6, 2009 at 12:56 AM Hi everyone. Perhaps one of you can help me. I'm looking for information on three Chinese liquors I found in a story: Paichu Raochu Shoukoushu 1) Do they exist? 2) How do you write their names in hanzi? 3) Would anyone be willing to recommend/know a good brand or a company that makes it? Google is providing little help. Thank you^^ Quote
flameproof Posted March 6, 2009 at 05:23 AM Report Posted March 6, 2009 at 05:23 AM I think there are some romanization problems. #1 looks like 白酒 / BaiJiu to me. Quote
roddy Posted March 6, 2009 at 05:30 AM Report Posted March 6, 2009 at 05:30 AM They don't look like very plausible names for Chinese drinks to me. Where's the story? Ah, hang on, if the romanisation is off, could be 白酒 and . . . 热酒? Quote
fynoda Posted March 6, 2009 at 06:38 AM Author Report Posted March 6, 2009 at 06:38 AM The first one sounds correct. This was in a Japanese manga, which takes place in China. One of the pieces of merchandise for the series has the recipe for one of the character's favorite drinks on it. It's quite possibly that "ba" and "pa" got mixed up, as they're very close in Japanese. I found some place selling Raochu, if that helps: http://www.bestspirits.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=40&Itemid=53 (ctrl f Raochu) The S one appears to be a type of rice wine. gougou Posted March 6, 2009 at 07:33 AM Report Posted March 6, 2009 at 07:33 AM Some googling reveals: 白酒 - Paichu 老酒 - Raochu 绍兴酒 - Shoukoushu Mostly found on Japanese pages about Chinese alcohol, so I guess it's a Japanese romanization system. Quote
lzreading Posted March 6, 2009 at 11:12 PM Report Posted March 6, 2009 at 11:12 PM I thought Shoukoushu was 漱口水 Quote
