瞎凑合

I would be grateful if anyone would explain what 瞎凑合 means in the following sentence:

从来都是瞎凑合

Is the 瞎 there for emphasis and the sentence just means "never able to manage". The dictionaries I consulted did not offer much support here.

One of the meanings of 凑合 is 'to make do', and 瞎 is 'blind[ly]', so 'blindly make do' or just an emphatic 'make do' is probably what you are looking for and makes sense in context.

You can see the way people in asia( chinese culture influented area) is like this. In their mind, classes are there. The one who has more power could take advatage of the other. And the other would admit this power. People would laugh at you if you failed challeging the power too. It is the unwriten rule.

But in most situations, both sides have something to exchange. Say, they are equal. In the fear of been taken advatage of, and been thought of taking advatage, both sides would held a step back from the line. They 'bow' to each other in their talk. That's why the chinese always say they are humble. Even if there is a glorious dinner on the table, they would say: I wish these simple dishes will satisfy you.

When it comes to 瞎凑合. It is the answer to 'how are you doing'. 瞎 is blind. Blind to what? Blind to the ambitions. Too ambisious means too aggresive, and that is not supposed to show. Its against the 'be humble' rule. 凑合 means doing not too good, not too bad. A similar phrase is 瞎混. 混 means drift along. The common thing of both is 'I am not doing too good', the opposite of which may leave a impression of showing off or insult like: look at you, you shabby fellow.

凑合expresses one person's attitude when he is doing something. a perfectionist will never be 凑合. you get it a little?

for example there are two persons,A and B. they decide to cook in their each place,A want to make a perfect meal, he consider the optimum combination of material to make sure the best alimentation and how to make it tasted great.he is a perfectionist. but B, he dont care anything except filling his stomach out. we can say B凑合了一顿饭.

so 凑合mean to do sth just to meet the most basic requirement.

凑合and瞎凑合 are the same meaning. 瞎凑合is usually with a negative tone.
