muyongshi Posted March 12, 2009 at 12:31 PM Report Posted March 12, 2009 at 12:31 PM (note: this is not an ad) So came across these guys at mandomandarin.com and was really curious if anyone has used them, knows anything about them (obviously other than what's on their site) or has any feelings about them. Their website looks good and the prices are good but what they say to offer and at those prices, just seems to good to be true. Don't know how anyone could operate at those costs honestly and they haven't been around long (just over a year it looks like). Anyway, being me who spent hours immersing myself in the language and culture and only getting where I am after much hard work, I really have a hard time believing their promises. Any thoughts? Quote
roddy Posted March 12, 2009 at 12:56 PM Report Posted March 12, 2009 at 12:56 PM $10 an hour isn't the cheapest I've seen. If their tutors are working from home and are only paid for hours worked, their only expense is the website and any marketing they do. China-based tutors aren't expensive, particularly if they're working from home. Pretty much all of these sites will do a free trial - there's a list here, I'll add this bunch to it. Try 'em out and see what they're like. Quote
muyongshi Posted March 12, 2009 at 01:04 PM Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 at 01:04 PM It may not be the cheapest but it the *major ones seem to be a lot more pricey than it (well then again half the places never list their prices and you HAVE to do the d*mn lesson to find out). But for all their boasting about the training and quality, in watching their demo clip I do NOT see it. No visuals, no concrete resources, typing 非常 in the middle of the lesson and repeating a few times and assuming retention? Come on are we that stupid? (that was rhetorical and not directed at ANYONE!) Quote
