yersi Posted March 13, 2009 at 10:57 PM Report Posted March 13, 2009 at 10:57 PM 安慰 撫慰 寬慰 慰藉 These words all seem to mean some form of "console" or "comfort", but what differences are there between them? Quote
xiaodan Posted March 14, 2009 at 08:56 AM Report Posted March 14, 2009 at 08:56 AM Yes, almost the same. 安慰n./v. comfort commonly used, like when your friends feel not good or encounter something wrong but not serious e.g.安慰他几句 say a few words to comfort him/give him a few words of comfort 撫慰n./v. console used for special time when somebody died or console someone who encounther something big and serious. We tried to console her when her dog died. 寬慰 like 安慰, but not commonly, we usually use 安慰 慰藉 administer spiritual comfort or materially use this word means you should give something to someone make him comfortable all above them is my personal opinion, sorry for may have something wrong. it is a really tough work use English explain the Chinese, my goodness.
