Shadowdh Posted March 24, 2009 at 12:16 AM Report Posted March 24, 2009 at 12:16 AM Hi all, I know that giving clocks is not the done thing but what about calendars? I have a couple of English Heritage calendars with great photos of places around the UK and would like to send them to a couple of friends in China... would this be ok or is it not the done thing? Cheers for any help. Quote
randall_flagg Posted March 24, 2009 at 12:45 AM Report Posted March 24, 2009 at 12:45 AM I think it would be a nice gift and greatly appreciated. Have given away calenders as gifts before and will continue to do so. Good luck! Quote
skylee Posted March 24, 2009 at 01:45 AM Report Posted March 24, 2009 at 01:45 AM It is OK. But you might wish to note that banks/shops/companies give calendars (pretty or ugly) freely as gifts at the end / beginning every year (at least in HK), so to many people they are not a necessity. And calendars that do not contain information on local holidays etc are not really that useful. If someone gives me a nice calendar I would gladly accept it and then put it in a drawer until it is time to throw it away. But maybe it is just me. I guess some people like having calendars with nice pictures. Quote
flameproof Posted March 24, 2009 at 01:46 AM Report Posted March 24, 2009 at 01:46 AM I get about 10 calenders every near end of year. I pick one (usually a 3 or 4-month type), the rest goes into recycling. Seems they are fully ok to give or take. That our office people don't want them is less towards culture and more towards large oversupply. @skylee But maybe it is just me. We are 2 now. Quote
roddy Posted March 24, 2009 at 02:57 AM Report Posted March 24, 2009 at 02:57 AM I've given similar gifts and not been accused of cultural insensitivity. As said above, there's no shortage of calendar giving, but it's mainly companies handing out promotional ones to clients and employees. Actually, it's probably companies discovering that their clients don't actually want them and then pretending they were for the employees all along. Quote
Shadowdh Posted March 24, 2009 at 08:41 AM Author Report Posted March 24, 2009 at 08:41 AM Thanks everyone, now that I know its not a no-no I will send them across... its not so much that they are calendars its more the fact that they have great photos of some English/UK heritage sights my friends visited when they were here... sort of a memories thing... cheers Quote
