roddy Posted March 28, 2009 at 06:33 AM Report Posted March 28, 2009 at 06:33 AM Following the success of the 春晚 and the Olympic Opening Ceremony topics, I wanted to let forum members know of tonight's event, the televisual gala celebrating half a century of serf liberation in Tibet. As you can see from the CCTV site, it all kicks off at 8pm Beijing time, and there are links there for online viewing. Expect singing, dancing and perhaps the burning of effigies of certain Nobel Peace Prize recipients. Oh, and many, many, happy ethnic minorities. And maybe 小沈阳 as a somewhat (base) camp Sherpa I'm probably going to be out for the first part at least, but I do hope anyone watching will use this topic for running commentary and queries or questions about the ongoing craptacular. I will of course be rushing home to try and catch the end. Quote
liuzhou Posted March 28, 2009 at 07:34 AM Report Posted March 28, 2009 at 07:34 AM I'll set the video. Where can I get Betamax tapes? Don't worry, I'll send a serf to find some. Quote
skylee Posted March 28, 2009 at 11:03 AM Report Posted March 28, 2009 at 11:03 AM Shouldn't they turn off the light tonight? Quote
roddy Posted March 28, 2009 at 02:27 PM Author Report Posted March 28, 2009 at 02:27 PM Just me that was looking forward to this then? Oh well. I missed the whole thing anyway. Shouldn't they turn off the light tonight? Change of plan. Quote
Meng Lelan Posted March 28, 2009 at 11:29 PM Report Posted March 28, 2009 at 11:29 PM Maybe CCTV could have had Tibetan serfs light their yak butter candles and torches to illuminate the TV spectacle? Or maybe that would re-torch the CCTV building, I don't know. Quote
