Close... 要是 means "if" in this context, not "want," so a better translation would be:

If one doesn't work hard, he will accomplish nothing.

How about for the next sentence, try translating what's in my signature: 一寸光陰一寸金,寸金難買寸光陰。 It's a pretty popular expression... more motivation for you. :D

in my opinion ,"颠" means "shake" .

there's many ancient prose in china which even most chinese people can't understand,that's what the chinese lessons learn about.

like" 颠",in fact,we're not often use this word often,sometimes we use "抖" instead of " 颠"。

Roddy - another interesting one is ...颠倒黑白 dian1dao3hei1bai2...which is some think like....to stand truth on its head.
