kh001 Posted April 4, 2009 at 06:15 PM Report Share Posted April 4, 2009 at 06:15 PM Hi Would anyone be so kind as to tell me what this tattoo means? If there's anything wrong with the tattoo, or you think it's a bad tattoo - please don't be afraid to tell me so. Your help and opinions are appreciated
skylee Posted April 5, 2009 at 01:25 AM Report Share Posted April 5, 2009 at 01:25 AM It's a bad tattoo. It looks like 佳 (which means good and is pronounced "jia") but it is not. It's right side also looks like the right side of 能 (which means able and is pronounced "neng") but the left side is illegible.

skillphiliac Posted April 5, 2009 at 01:36 PM Report Share Posted April 5, 2009 at 01:36 PM As skylee said, it is rather horrendous. The right part either looks like the right side of 鞋 or 能. The left one on the other hand... interpreting freely it could be a very distant relative of 手 's shortened form (the left side of, for example, 把). Put together, I'd go with 挂 (gua4) which can be translated with "to hang, to put up". Against the odds that it actually is supposed to be 挂, it would sure be a strange tattoo. randall_flagg Posted April 5, 2009 at 02:16 PM Report Share Posted April 5, 2009 at 02:16 PM You could always claim that it is an mythical tattoo used for Daoist rituals in the 3rd century B.C., and that it has been outlawed by the Chinese government because of its dangerous and possibly subversive implications! Hehe...
skillphiliac Posted April 5, 2009 at 08:13 PM Report Share Posted April 5, 2009 at 08:13 PM @randall: He/She could tell people the character was derrived "from the Kanji language".
