A norm: why don't they queue?

It's not just the Cultural Revolution. To my surprise, people here in Taipei have also never heard of first letting people out of the subway before getting on it, they just push themselves in. Apart from that, they're quite orderly, as far as I have seen up till now. Haven't bought any train tickets yet though.

they then go & move overseas & take this bad habit with them... my friend's friend's wife was almost beaten to death with a frozen chicken for pushing in on the supermarket line... funny #$%@, i wish i had been there

But why didn't they queue? It must worth a PhD degree if you can fully understand this phenomenon.

1. There are no penalties for not lining up

2. You might get things faster than if you do queue

3. Traditional top-down political concepts -- unless there is someone to 管, the Chinese feel no compulsion to cooperate

4. Queuing requires public cooperation to work. If a portion of people don't follow it, the benefits disappear and there is no incentive to queue. (In other words, if you queue you're a mug)

Can you thing of any others?
