KhalI Posted April 8, 2009 at 05:59 AM Report Posted April 8, 2009 at 05:59 AM Hi, In september I want to go to China, Beijing to experience China and also get to know the language. At the moment I am just looking at the options available. I heard about ICS ( institute of Chinese Studies www.ics-china.com ). Does someone have experience with this school? I realize there are actually a lot of options available but this one especially caught my attention. They have a professional appereance. Any how please let me know about your findings and I am to other suggestions ^^. Quote
Scoobyqueen Posted April 10, 2009 at 07:50 AM Report Posted April 10, 2009 at 07:50 AM I spent some time looking for a school in Beijing. There were loads of schools and I had no way of evaluating them. I eventually settled on a small school with around three teachers which was not the most professional-looking in terms of image. It was based on a recommendation from a teacher who teaches Chinese at a Chinese university. Otherwise I probably wouldnt have gone for that school (because of the lack of professional appearance). It is best to go with a recomendation. You could consider listing the points that are important for you: professional image; course material favoured; method; experience, teachers' background. Quote

gato Posted April 10, 2009 at 09:41 AM Report Posted April 10, 2009 at 09:41 AM I think she wants to keep it a secret until after her trip. Quote
Scoobyqueen Posted April 10, 2009 at 11:54 AM Report Posted April 10, 2009 at 11:54 AM The school, I think, recently changed names from V-Hunters to something else. I have done four courses there already. Teachers are mostly Tsinhua graduates. Quote

Scoobyqueen Posted April 10, 2009 at 12:11 PM Report Posted April 10, 2009 at 12:11 PM Cheers Gato for the additional research It is a small outfit with three teachers and supply teachers when necessary. They seem to specialise in one-to-one lessons which was one of my main criteria. For such a short stay, group lessons are not that suitable methinks. With them being Tsinghua graduates or near-similar they are very demanding in terms of pushing students and come down hard on you if you havent done your homework. Quote
KhalI Posted April 13, 2009 at 03:48 AM Author Report Posted April 13, 2009 at 03:48 AM Hi all, Thanks for your kind replies. I have had a look at V-hunters website, it also looks appealing. Listing down some criteria is a good idea ^^ that will shorten the list for me and I will ask a teacher of mine who has studied Chinese before for some recommendations. Though I am not totally sure yet what to do. ICS appeals to me cause I can also choose some business subjects, later on I am considering studying business. Quote
Scoobyqueen Posted April 29, 2009 at 04:52 AM Report Posted April 29, 2009 at 04:52 AM I would like to retract on my statement with regards to the above school. I am no longer in a position to recommend them as they just let me down. I will write a thread on it later. I would recommend not signing up with them. Quote
Flying Pigeon Posted April 29, 2009 at 01:03 PM Report Posted April 29, 2009 at 01:03 PM what's the name of the school? is it bsi? i think gato posted info about that school and then deleted it. Quote
gato Posted April 29, 2009 at 01:41 PM Report Posted April 29, 2009 at 01:41 PM It's called V-Hunters. Sounds like a rifle club. Quote
Scoobyqueen Posted April 29, 2009 at 03:58 PM Report Posted April 29, 2009 at 03:58 PM Gato is right it sounds like a rifle club. They use the shutter gun approach to business, aim in lots of directions and in so doing end up losing their core strength sadly. More later. Quote
