anxoperez Posted April 10, 2009 at 10:50 AM Report Posted April 10, 2009 at 10:50 AM can someone explain the difference between zàihu and guānxīn? I have heard that wo guanxin is more like I care and wo zaihu is more like "to be important to me" But I am not sure and I am confused. Quote
leeyah Posted April 10, 2009 at 11:37 AM Report Posted April 10, 2009 at 11:37 AM 在乎 means the same as 在意 to care about or 介意 to mind, to take to heart, and can be used for both people and abstract things and usually in negative context as in 毫无在乎 not care at all,满不在乎 couldn't care less: 只要能学会,多学几年倒不在乎. I don't care how long it takes so long as I can learn it well. & 他不在乎别人的看法。He doesn't care what other people think. 关心 is more used in the sense of 为别人关心 or 重视和爱护 to care about other people or 放在心上 to be thoughtful for, show concern for others: 他对别人毫无关心,太自私了! He doesn't care about others he's too selfish! It can also be used for things as in 这是我们公司的大事,请大家多关点儿心。 This is a matter of importance for our company, I hope everyone will show more interest in it. hillman Posted April 12, 2009 at 06:48 PM Report Posted April 12, 2009 at 06:48 PM They are the two sides of "care" in English: "I don't care." versus "I care about you." One may try to interpret them literally as "in my mind" and "in/close to my heart". Quote
