rush7 Posted April 16, 2009 at 07:19 AM Report Posted April 16, 2009 at 07:19 AM I'm interested in learning Chinese for a year (40 academic weeks) in about 2 years. So far the general trend seems to be: BLCU - more westerners, a little less academically rigorous and some complaints about teaching quality. BNU - less westerners, teaching quality is better than BLCU and much more homework. Beida (Peking U) - same as BNU but teaching quality is much better, and need to pass entrance exams. How true are there? Another concern is housing. I don't want to come and realize my room has been snagged by someone else. Quote
Xiwang Posted April 16, 2009 at 09:30 AM Report Posted April 16, 2009 at 09:30 AM There's no entrance examination, just a written placement examination. You're supposed to know 800 characters or, if I recall correctly, have studied Chinese for about a year. However, in reality, there are many students who start off knowing very little Chinese. Quote
