Home stay in china? good, bad, ugly??

here is my problem and a possible solution, at least an attempt at the solution: i need to learn more chinese, am now an english teacher and can't find the time, too many daily 'needs'. so this summer i will take 2 months for intensive study. can choose univ. or private mandarin school, many in beijing, other cities. pay the fees, attend class, etc. OR, i could find a home stay arraignment in a small, intersting coastal city with a small univ, hire a daily teacher, do my own direction, etc. advantages to both situations, i like the latter. do you have any knowledge of 'home stay' in china? especially the legal BS, like with PSB (public security bureau), stuff like that. thanks.

Folks,

I feel this forum is amazing. Just showing up and exactly the question I am asking myself has been asked just some days ago! unfortunately it is also one of the rares without an answer yet... (the same goes for my second favorite about the Hangzhou rentals ; )

So if anybody has any thoughts about this, I would be grateful too.

Thanks a lot!

Both: homestays in China have been discussed at length around here, you can try searching for those topics. Feel free to come back here if you have any more questions after that, usually we're quick and thorough with answers around here.
