Scoobyqueen Posted April 19, 2009 at 08:10 PM Report Posted April 19, 2009 at 08:10 PM When visiting China, I am always looking for different gift ideas that are unusual and typically non-Chinese but not tied to the country I live in (since I am not German). Quote
renzhe Posted April 19, 2009 at 10:04 PM Report Posted April 19, 2009 at 10:04 PM I've seen these, they seem to be popular with Germans living/working in China. My girlfriend found them funny. I do think that some of those are specific to Germany vs. China (as opposed to east vs. west), though. Think "punctuality", "bratwurst", etc. Quote
gerri Posted April 19, 2009 at 10:42 PM Report Posted April 19, 2009 at 10:42 PM I used some of them in my teaching, and the interpretations of some Chinese students were really interesting... many things were understood very differently. And, to be honest, I don't like it all that much because it's way too stereotyping for my taste. Case in point: We just recently found that I'm extremely good at not approaching problems, answering questions, directly, as it's supposedly typically German... Some graphics are also a bit too much oriented on German/European standards for graphical representation of certain things (tea kettle vs. coca-cola, noise represented by oscillator graph...) Still, with the usual pinch (or kg) of salt, some interesting food for thought... Quote
